Wednesday Wishes and an awesome giveaway!!!

I know I say this every week, but I cannot believe it is Wednesday already. I only have a few wishes this week, 2 actually.

1. I wish I was less socially awkward. I am totally one of those people who gets nervous meeting new people and says stuff that is so dorky. Then I feel like I should never try to talk to the person again because they must think I am such a geek, and not a cool geek. I think that is part of why I like to blog so much. It is a safe sort of anonymity and I have a chance to get to know people slowly. Anyway, I wish I could just lighten up and have a better time.

My second wish is that I will complete all of my 30 before 30 goals. I was reading Kellie's blog and she posted her 23 before 23 goals, and it made me think of the ones I created on Saturday to complete before my next birthday. Here they are...

1. Go camping

2. Harvest our garden

3. Attend ThanksLiving

4. Lose 10 pounds

5. Go to a bar

6. Attend 3 protests

15. Find a playgroup for John

16. Have a boardgame night with friends

17. Play in the rain

18. Go to the meditation class

19. Go to a roller derby

20. Find a place to volunteer

21. Color a whole coloring book.

22. Dye my hair three times

23. Go to the snow

24 Read at least 25 books

25. Organize my ipod

26. Repay a debt to my mom and stepdad

27. Scan all of my wedding pictures

28. Make 10 handmade items

I just love a good book

I thought that I would finish Middlesex faster, but I finished it on Monday. I am so glad I took another chance on this book. I really enjoyed it a great deal. It took me on a journey with carefully constructed characters and emotions. I felt really invested in Cal/Callie's story and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. I am also just really interested in the"intersex" culture and how it effects the lives of the people involved. Even though the book is fictional, it is definitely realistic fiction, so I felt like I was really learning something. I will be getting Jeffrey Eugenides book The Virgin Suicides shortly, so I will have another chance to enjoy his characters soon enough.

Right now I am reading this book...

I am the kind of person that can read my favorite books/stories over and over and over again. I have read this book no less than 6 times, and every time I enjoy it as much as the first time. Jeff Long creates fiction that I feel like is different than anyone else. It is intelligent and thought provoking, frightening and thrilling. This book is, in short, about an expedition that is going down below the surface of the Earth to explore an entire subterranean environment that has existed without humankind's knowledge for years. The underground world is populated by a species similar, but distinct from, homosapiens. When these people get down there, they are totally out of their element and start experiencing and seeing things that they never knew existed. It is such a wonderful book and I am excited to be exploring it yet again.

I feel like I should have more to post tonight. I had a great weekend and we spent last night at my moms which was a ton of fun. We ended up playing some karaoke game and Guitar Hero on the Wii. We got video of my mom singing and it is truly priceless, but I am really going to have to work on her to get permission to show it :)

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Mother's Day

In honor of Mother's Day, here is a short list of things I never thought would come out of my mouth until I became mom to a boy :) These are literally things that I have said to John recently
  • Take your finger out of your butt
  • Don't touch the dog's butthole
  • Don't lick the dog
  • Stop eating the dog food
  • Don't put (insert random toy name here) in your mouth/ear/nose
  • Stop trying to toot on me
  • Wow, that is a great poopy
  • No, I don't need you to wipe for me - he is pretty into watching what happens on the potty right now. Hopefully that means I won't be changing diapers for the rest of my life :)

Being a mom is a hilarious and breathtaking experience, but man - kids do some strange things :)

Anyway, Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there.

29 Today :)

weheartit.com

Today is my birthday and I am 29. I remember turning 18 or 21 and thinking 29 and 30 seemed so far off. It got here much faster than I expected, but I feel no different. I am still my same juvenile, immature self (thank goodness).

I woke up this morning to my little man saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY loud and clear. In fact, I heard him throughout the morning practicing with his dad. Every time his bedroom door was open he thought it was time to yell out at me :) I got some cute cards and a gorgeous handmade necklace from my little sister. I already got my presents from everyone else. And even though Josh has to work, I will be spending the day with my pops and John with a date night to follow. I couldn't really ask for more on my birthday :)

I also just wanted to say that I have so many things to be thankful for. I feel very reflective this morning and I do just have so many wonderful gifts in my life.
1. I am thankful that I get to spend every day for the rest of my life with a man that I love inside and out. He makes me feels complete and he takes great care with the half of my heart that he carries inside of him.
2. I am thankful for a little boy who fills me with a love that I did not know could exist in this world. He made me a mother and the person that I am today.
3. I am thankful for the greatest family: Parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins that anyone could ever ask for. To grow up completely surrounded by love is the best gift any parent can ever present to a child.
4. I am thankful that I have a roof over my head and food in the fridge. There have been times lately that those things were all that we had, but it makes me appreciate life that much more.
5. I am thankful for this blog and all of the amazing people I have met as a result of it. Each and every one of you enrich my life.
6. I am just thankful to be a part of this world and to have the ability to affect change and to find my own way in life.

I will be back later tonight or maybe tomorrow with my 30 before 30 list.

Happy Saturday!!
